The project

Ancestors Park is a one-of-a-kind place: a park where every tree tells the story of an ancestor, a family, a bond that has endured over time.

The concept behind the park was born from the desire to preserve the memory of a family and its legacy for future generations. At the same time, thanks to its many spaces and activities, the park is open and accessible to anyone who wishes to explore the world of genealogy and family history.

What Is Ancestors Park

The park is located in Padula, near the Certosa di San Lorenzo, in an area that has been inhabited and cultivated for centuries. It covers approximately 40,000 square meters and is home to many centuries-old trees, including oaks, chestnuts, and olive trees, as well as large areas dedicated to planting new ones.

Over the years, through the many genealogical tours we have organized — such as those promoted by the Museo del Cognome — together with families of Italian descent, we have walked through narrow streets, old squares, and places that were once part of our ancestors’ daily lives. How much of that world has been lost or changed over time?

Not the trees.

Many of them are centuries old, born in the same era as our great-great-grandparents, perhaps even standing as silent witnesses to their lives — and to their births.

Honoring Your Family

Modern life is fast-paced, divided between work and constant movement, and many things are easily lost. Finding an old letter or an object that once belonged to our grandparents can feel almost like a small miracle.

When I am no longer here, who will carry on the memory of my ancestors?
Will any trace of them remain?

Ancestors Park is the answer.

After choosing your tree — based on its symbolic meaning or seasonal availability — a stone plaque bearing your name or the name of the ancestor you wish to honor will be placed at its base. You may also add a few words telling their story and explaining why they are so important to you.

You can also choose to create a Time Capsule, where you may place a family tree, old photographs, letters, or meaningful family objects.

Staying connected today is simple: all it takes is an email address to remain connected forever — or at least for as long as you wish.
